THANK YOU TO OUR MEMBERS and VISITORS on Wednesday 7th February 2018
We would like to thank everyone who joined us for a charity talk by Ken Scott and donated so generously. As a result we have sent £500 to be split between Ken's two chosen charities, Parkinson's UK and the RNLI. We were spellbound by Ken's talk and enjoyed the evening and our visitors' company, We hope you will be able to join us again in the future.
This is not a technical talk, but will hopefully make the audience aware of the personal approach he takes, both to his photography and the subsequent printing. When viewing the finished print he is guided by an underlying question...”Have I done the image justice?”.This lecture will show a wide variety of images and Chris will discuss some of the considerations and decisions that were taken when the print was made. (The choice of print density, tonality, colour saturation, and paper surface all play an important part in the final success of a print). Generally he follows the maxim of getting the image right at the taking stage, so his aim is to produce a print that portrays the original image in thebest possible way.His belief is that when on location it is important to allow time for the creative process to take place and to let the subject speak. The interaction between himself and the scene allows him to produce a personal response and to record an image in such a way that it is visually appealing, simple and reveals something ofthe feelings and emotions that are experienced when the shutter is fired. Chris gained an Associateship of the RPS with traditional monochrome prints and a Fellowship with digital prints, and assesses on the RPS Fine Art (A & F) Panel. Since 2005 he has supported Spirit & Vision Landscape Photographic Workshops with Paul Foley FRPS, and also provides one to one tuition.Chris is a busy national PAGB judge and popular lecturer; he has visited many camera clubs and judged many regional, national and international exhibitions. He gained a Distinction from the PAGB for colour transparencies and was pleased to receive an APAGB award for services to photography. He has also had success and gained awards in international exhibitions while earning AFIAP and EFIAP distinctions. Colleen Slater is a fully qualified and experienced teacher with a BA degree in fine art and a postgraduate Art Teacher’s Certificate. She is an Associate of the Royal Photographic Society and has been working full-time as a photographer since 2006. Her particular interest is macro photography and her images hope to draw attention to the ordinary, often unnoticed, things in the everyday world which appear extraordinary and sometimes unworldly when seen through a macro lens. Colleen’s relaxed, friendly, enthusiastic style and ability to communicate clearly, whatever your level of capability, technical knowledge or experience, should make for an enjoyable and informative session. She will also be letting us know how she took her photographs, from equipment, camera settings, lighting and focusing to composition and post processing.
