Horsham Photographic Society has secured an online speaker, Polina Plotnikova ARPS,EFIAP, and we would like to share this Zoom talk with you.
The approach that Polina takes is similar to that of a portrait photographer. She uses flowers, plants and still life and always tries to find a unique look. Her own point of view is not limited to the purely botanical, but also deals with mood and character, beauty and purity.
With her still life photography - which she feels is great for a perfectionist - no one fidgets or makes faces, no sudden gust of wind or some other quirk of ever-changing weather can spoil your shot. But, by the same token, you cannot count on something interesting to just happen all of a sudden. She says: “It is all up to you; the choices are infinite, and the final result is entirely in your own hands”.
Polina often uses a Lensbaby and is much more interested in chasing an ever-elusive image that appears in her mind's eye, an image that conveys her feelings and emotions, rather than remaining a mere statement of fact. Polina says: "Lensbaby for me was truly 'love at first sight' - in that I loved the way in which the world could be seen through my viewfinder. Creative focusing and partial blurring are wonderful tools for highlighting areas of my image that I want to draw to a viewer's attention. And visually, Lensbaby optics allow me to introduce a translucent, dreamlike quality, which is often exactly how I feel about things, places and people that I photograph."
Polina holds ARPS and EFIAP distinctions, photographic awards, and multiple medals and distinctions awarded by various Photography Salons and is a member of the Arena Photographers group.
